Hey all in Harshmellows fandom – just wanted to drop a line and let you know that original material is a comin’ and should be posted in the near future, to prove that we, indeed, are more than just cover artists. Check back here often for updates, and the unveiling of three new songs! When we have to rock, we rock hard, but when I use the word “original”…well, you’ll see what I mean!
In the meantime, Xmas is here! Why not check out the Harshmellows’ Store, and pick up some holiday themed items?
Recent changes in the life of the band members may have an impact on our input – and it should be in a positive way. I have taken on a new role as a content acquirer (new word?) for some new IPTV channels, including an unsigned indie channel, designed to put videos out over the internet to subscribers to our company’s subscribers. What does this mean to the Harshmellows? Well, a couple of things. Since we are submitting content for the channel, we’ve learned that cover songs aren’t really eligible without the rights from the original artists – and that’s kind of out of our price range at the moment. This motivates us to start finishing some original material for production.
This isn’t a horrible thing. The Harshmellows are a pretty laid back band that does things when the urge strikes – but this opportunity for exposure is too good to pass up. This means in the near future, we’ll be completing and posting some songs on the site – original material from the rocking-est cover band on the planet!
Coupled with this is our need to submit songs in a format common to TV viewers – videos! Yes, Adam and I are now on the blazing trail of being video auteurs! We have to film videos for our original songs, but it feeds our egos in just the right way!
So stay tuned, in the coming days, for both new songs, and videos accompanying them!
Some of you may have noticed the style changes on our blog. Well, we have designed a new logo (above) and some new colourful characters to help represent the power of our rock — it’s cute, and evil! And in keeping with our new design, we decided to offer some cool stuff for you to buy!
That’s right, folks! Thanks to the good people at Cafe Press, the Harshmellows are proud to present The Harshmellows Store! That’s right! Now you too can own Harshmellows swag, like t-shirts, caps, and yes, even g-string thongs for the ladies! All proceeds go to making us better musicians, so you’ve also invested in your own future — the future of your ears! So jump on the bandwagon — the Harshmellows bandwagon (get it?) and support your favourite band that isn’t famous!
Today, The Harshmellows proudly unveil their newest addition to the 80’s cover extravaganza, Criminal Mind! This Larry Gowan original was a haunting little piano ditty back in the day, and the revamp has kept that creepy spirit, and added some grade-A teeth to it.
Featuring vocals by both Jason and Adam (that’s Adam’s choral quality voice in the chorus), guitars by Adam and bass by Jason, this re-imagining has already gotten the seal of approval from Jason’s wife and daughter, only one of whom is a tough critic. I’ll let you guess which one.
So, check it out on the Songs page, where you can loop it to your little heart’s content! It’s a biggie at over 7 minutes long, but as the original was also epic in scope, that’s certainly in keeping with the theme. Or, listen to it below! Enjoy!
Well, for those of you that are taking note of this sort of thing — and really, why wouldn't you be? — we have updates to both of our 80's classics here on our Songs page, including Adam's new solo and guitar work on "I Ran". Ooh, it's funky stuff. Be aware that we're ramping up for our third 80's cover, which should appear in the coming weeks. If we weren't both such lazy bastards…or volunteering for charity work! Yeah, that's a better excuse!
New material is coming along, and should be available for a listen in the coming months as well!
Well, summer is drawing to a close, and the Harshmellows are coming out of the lazy-ass mode that they've been in. Adam's trying new stuff, I'm writing lyrics, we're formulating a new plan, and should have some new material up for a listen in the near future.
For those of you interested in more seasonal offerings, I have, on a challenge from Mr. Mellow, decided to write our very own Xmas rap. The words are flowing easily, if not child-friendly. However, as is the norm for these sort of things, I would love anyone to add input about what they think is the best song to "sample" or "rip off" for our main musical riff. It doesn't have to be Xmas themed, although those aren't ruled out. I've been leaning towards melodic songs that haven't been hit by the rap looters yet.
Remember, we're not planning on making money with these songs, so we really don't have to worry about royalties and rights. That only matters if you're making money, or costing the original artists money. I doubt very much that HM are a real concern for legitimate musicians.
Well, a musical update from the band that cares, the Harshmellows! Today, we add a new freshly polished 80's gem to the pile, with our rendition of that beacon of 80's nostalgia, "I Ran". Yes, from the Flock of Seagulls, that band with the hair so bad it got named after them, comes this new version on an old 'classic'. Note the quotes. It can be found on our Songs Page, so have a listen, and send us some feedback letting us know what you think!
Also, the newest version of "Hello" has been posted, with some added guitar, and most notably, Adam's vocal stylings accompanying Jason in his unique voice!
Hopefully, we'll be putting some more "Polished Turds", those forgotten, forbidden 80's love up in the weeks to come, in addition to some original material. We're not just about taking credit for other's work, you know!
Well, it's official. The Harshmellows have a new site, which you're looking at! Well, it's about time — how much Stay Puft can you handle? At this point, everything is new, and under constant upgrading, so the changes will come fast and furious. New songs will be posted as they are deemed "ready for listening", and hopefully we'll have a new quality 80's cover in the coming days.
